An Abbots Langley community club took to a local supermarket yesterday urging residents to vote for them in a bid to win a £100,000 grant to improve their facilities.

Players from Evergreen Football Club and members from the wheelchair football team were in Asda Watford with their own stand to hand out leaflets encouraging members of the public to vote for them.

This comes after Evergreen Football Club was announced as the winner of a £50,000 grant, as part of the Budweiser Club Futures programme.

The football club now has the opportunity to win an additional £100,000 super grant to top up their funds following a vote by football fans on Facebook.

Ron Smith, chairman of the club said:" We are second at moment and the votes between us and the club at the top are very close.

"With an extra push, this is winnable. We are so pleased with the support we have received so far and we hope this can continue."

The club hopes to spend the extra cash on expanding their new clubhouse and making it wheelchair accessible.
