A Radlett teacher shared a stage with Hollywood royalty including Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway at last night’s Oscars.

Jeff Nicholson, who teaches drama at Radlett Prep School, was part of the chorus line singing the live Les Miserables medley for a worldwide TV audience in the tens of millions.

Mr Nicholson, who spent three years performing Les Miserables in the West End, was one of five Brits invited to join the cast of the hugely successful film adaptation on stage in Los Angeles by director Cameron Mackintosh.

The former Croxley Green resident, who now lives in Leighton Buzzard, is the son-in-law of Watford Labour Party Chairman Mike Jackson.

His wife Alice also teaches drama in Watford.

Mr Jackson said: "We are all very proud of him.

"He was delighted to be able to go out there, he had been invited by Cameron Mackintosh and got special permission from the school to go."

Mr Nicholson’s time in the West End saw him serve as understudy to the role of Javert, an irrepressible police officer and the nemesis to the story’s hero Jean Valjean, as well as several other parts. He also played a supporting role in the 2012 film.

This morning he took to Twitter to brand the performance one of the best of his life.

He said: "An amazing time. Got to be top 3 in my life. After marrying my best friend and meeting my daughter for the first time. I miss you both."
