Abbots Langley Primary School students celebrate Rock Challenge success
A primary school in Abbots Langley picked up eight awards after performing in an international rock challenge on Monday.
Fifty-five pupils from Abbots Langley Primary School took to the stage in Stevenage against three other primary schools to perform their version of What a Wonderful World.
The Rock Challenge is an international annual competition designed to encourage children to perform together, with an initiative against drug use and alcoholism.
The school in Parsonage Close beat last year’s record of six awards and was rewarded for its efforts in lighting design, concept and originality, concept interpretation, staging, soundtrack, costume design, entertainment and performance skills.
Headteacher Roger Billing said a Year 3 pupil, Charlie, was most impressed as he was given the opportunity to go behind the scenes with the lighting specialist.
Mr Billing said: "I was really proud of the children. It was amazing to see all our children from Year 3 and upwards working together all on stage.
"The children were absolutely buzzing with excitement and they were so happy with their performance.
"We are now waiting for the DVD of the performance to arrive at school. The rest of our schoolchildren seem really excited and we will all sit and watch it together. "
The school now is waiting to find out which school won overall first place.
