Proposals to introduce nine speed humps on a road in Leavesden have been met with outrage.
As part of plans to build 425 homes on a site in Aerodrome Way, developer Bellway Homes now wants to introduce speed humps on South Way, which will fulfil traffic calming requirements.
The road’s speed limit would also be reduced from 40mph to 30mph and during a full council meeting on Tuesday, district councillors expressed their opposition to the humps.
Councillor Chris Whately Smith said: "I could not be more outraged. I think it is absolutely appalling.
"There isn’t a single resident that wants these humps. It looks as though we will get them through the back door.
Bellway has also put forward proposals to install two pedestrian crossings, with one included near the park entrance to make safer access.
Councillor Sara Bedford said: "Everyone is against the speed humps and residents must let the county council know how they feel.
"The speed humps will be uncomfortable for people, especially those elderly residents. If they are put in, drivers will begin to avoid the road."
Hertfordshire County Council’s highway department will now consider these proposals over the next six weeks in order to draw up a traffic order.
