Organisers hope this year’s Starlight Walk on Saturday, June 22 will be out of this world and the Peace Hospice has introduced Stellar, a new Starlight mascot to celebrate.

Hospice Patron Martin Kemp and his wife Shirlie were invited to name the new face of the Starlight Walk, choosing from suggestions made by hospice supporters.

Martin said: "We feel honoured to name the Starlight mascot and think ‘Stellar’ really suits her. We see so many women enjoying themselves on the walk and she definitely represents the fun side of taking part."

Stellar will be making appearances locally to encourage registrations for the walk and will also be there on the night to support walkers along the six and 13 mile routes.

There is an earlier start time of 9pm this year for those who want to get home sooner or go out on the town for longer.

And a new route with extra opportunities for entertainment will enhance the walker experience from start to finish.

Event Manager Peter Watson is also delighted to announce a new, lower age limit for participants.

He said: "We will be accepting registrations from girls aged 11 and over.

"We listened to our supporters and now girls can join their friends, mums, sisters, aunties, grandmas and Stellar, to Starlight Walk for the Hospice."

Individuals and teams are invited to register now at www.starlightwalk.org.uk
