Abbots Langley's Evergreen FC thanks residents for Budweiser Club Futures Programme competition support

An Abbots Langley community football club has said thanks to village residents for supporting their campaign to win a £100,000 grant, after coming a close second in the competition.

Despite losing out to the cash super grant, Evergreen FC will now find other ways to raise funds towards expanding their club and making it wheelchair accessible.

The community club came overall second place, after gaining an overall 30 percent of the votes in the Budweiser Club Futures Programme competition.

Ron Smith, chairman of the club said: "Although this is disappointing, coming second in the UK is a massive achievement for our club and we can all be proud of the effort and focus we put in to winning.

"We would like to thank members of the community for getting behind us.

"Our dream of an indoor football facility for power chair football is still a key agenda item and just as important now as it was yesterday. We will be exploring other sources of funds."

In December last year, Evergreen was announced as the winner of a £50,000 grant, which is also part of the Budweiser Club Futures programme.

Mr Smith added; "We are very pleased with the £50,000 grant we still have to spend, which we will aim to focus on."
