Two pensioners in their 80s have fallen victim to distraction thieves in supermarket car parks in north Watford over the last week.
The first theft happened on Thursday when an elderly man was approached in the car park of Asda in St Albans Road and had a credit card taken from his wallet.
Then on Monday an elderly woman was approached in Sainsbury’s car park in Cow Lane before cash and a bank card was stolen.
Hertfordshire Constabulary said in each of the incidents the victims were approached by a man and told they had dropped £10. Then as the money is put in the pensioners’ wallet or purse, bank cards and cash were removed.
Neighbourhood Inspector Deirdre Dent said: "We find that older people are being targeted in this type of crime so it is essential people are aware to prevent further incidents. If you are approached in this way, please call police immediately via 999."
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the police via the non-emergency telephone number 101.
