Jury discharged in Darius Henderson trial

The jury in the case of former Watford FC striker Darius Henderson has been discharged by the judge.

Judge Martin Griffith told the five men and seven women at St Albans crown court that the case could not continue because a witness was unavailable, working on a sheep farm in Australia.

Mr Henderson, 31, who previously played for Watford and Millwall, and lives in Markyate, Herts, denies causing grievous bodily harm to John Bell at Darcy's restaurant in St Albans on New Year's Day 2012.

No new date has been fixed for the trial.

Some people will do anything, even going as far away as Australia, to avoid appearing in court! :-)

Year's ago they were sent there for failing to win in court, Oh how times have changed, if it were still the case, there would only be the immigrants left here.

How could such a trial have got started if one of the witnesses was not going to be there? And if said witness had indicated their availability for the trial and then flew off to Australia they should be billed for the cost of the aborted trial. Someone has messed up here. What a waste of time!

Can one punch constitute GBH? Must have been a real haymaker.

why is this of interest? He left us years ago. No offence to Big D, he was terrific for us that first season - Marlon got all the plaudits but if I recall correctly Henderson had a better goals/games ratio - but 'bloke who used to work in Watford hits someone' isn't much of a story for the WO.

When i did Jury service, there was a lot of time wasted sitting around waiting for a case, then a load more waiting for all the procedures they go through.

"He punched Mr Bell in the head twice. It is unclear whether the first blow actually connected with Mr Bell, but the second certainly did. Mr Bell was knocked to the floor."

From a previous story on this website.

"He punched Mr Bell in the head twice ..."
So ... what precisely did Mr. Bell do BEFORE he was hit, to warrant such an attack?
Nothing???

Probably sticking his nose in where it didn't belong if the previous article is anything to go by.
