Rail freight petition's final push

Rail freight petition's final push Rail freight petition's final push

In a final push against the proposed rail freight, campaigners were in Radlett on Saturday morning collecting more signatures for the growing petition.

Activists from action group STRiFE are aiming to reach 10,000 signatures with their petition against the proposed Rail Freight in the former Radlett aerodrome site in Park Street.

If the petition reaches 10,000, campaigners will be given five minutes to argue their case at Hertfordshire County Council.

Volunteers took to the streets from 9.30am to 12pm in Radlett and St Albans.

Cathy Bolshaw, co-ordinator for STRIFE, said she thinks about two hundred people signed in Radlett and another two hundred in St Albans.

Despite the weekend's cold weather, Cathy said "it was well worth while".

Online, just over 8,830 have signed the petition, but the total number including the paper copies is yet to be determined.

If STRiFE are given their five minutes to debate at County Hall on March 26, residents will be allowed to attend.

Oh how generous! you have to get 10,000 people voting against something that they disagree with and they are allowed "5 minutes of time" at County Hall. How ironic that the a hand full of government officials can spend months (if not years) procrastinating over making decisions that affect our communities and yet we have to have at least 10,000 objections to be spared 5 minutes. About time we stood up against this type of thing and made the changes that we are all yearning for!
