A road in central Watford was closed last night after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

The police, fire service and an ambulance were called to Loates Lane at 6.30pm after a red Vauxhall Astra mounted the pavement.

A pedestrian was injured and taken to hospital, and bollards on the pavement were damaged. Fire fighters investigated a possible fuel leak.

The car was towed away at 7.45pm.
