Teenagers from a school in Kings Langley got behind the wheel yesterday as part of a national campaign for road safety.

The group of year 10 pupils from Kings Langley School enjoyed learning about the Highway Code before putting their knowledge to the test in an interactive driving experience.

This was part of the launch of Goodyear's Driving Academy, which aims to teach children how to drive before they reach the age of 17 and to teach newly qualified drivers how to drive safely and responsibly.

Information, advice and guidance administrator at the school Jan Wright, said: "It was a very successful day and the kids really enjoyed it.

"It was a good initiative and I think it was an unknown experience - many of the children drive around alongside their parents however haven’t experienced driving themselves.

"The hazard perception exercise on the computers followed by the driving experience gave them a good idea."
