11:10am Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News By Kathryn Snowdon, Reporter
Skateboarders and BMX racers will be performing at a free fun day in Radlett to encourage children to take up the sport.
The event, at Phillimore Recreation Ground, will have mini-workshops, offering young skateboarders the chance to get tips from the pros.
Organised by Aldenham Parish Council, the event will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 11am to 4pm.
Children and adults will also have the chance to showcase and practice their skills at the temporary skate park.
Skateboards and bikes will be provided on the day, which will also feature musical entertainment.

Brilliant memories of racing my red Raleigh burner BMX, wheelies, endos, posers and table tops in the early 80s...
Good times with maybe an hour on the ZX Spectrum at the end of the day.

This is what children need to be doing instead of being plonked in front of a console day in, day out. Brilliant memories of racing my red Raleigh burner BMX, wheelies, endos, posers and table tops in the early 80s... Good times with maybe an hour on the ZX Spectrum at the end of the day.
There was a short segment with the parents, the dad seemed slightly exasperated about it the mum kind gave the impression that she was okay with it as it kept them busy and out of their hair.
The program made the point however that adequate sleep is vital to childrens learning and that lack of sleep has a major impact on how well they do at school.
I've never gotten this seemingly common place thing that modern parents do of believing that good parenting equals giving their sprogs a games console, television, dvd player and computer with internet access often in their own room where its unsupervised. And then they wonder why their kids dont do well, or mis behave.
Sorry, off topic but yes I think anything that encourages kids to get out and be active should be totally supported
