Popstar and actor Martin Kemp and his wife Shirlie visited the Peace Hospice in Watford this week to officially name the new Starlight Walk mascot.

Martin and Shirlie are Patrons at the Peace Hospice and have been leading figures for the walk since its launch more than six years ago.

Prior to their visit, they were invited to choose the name of the new mascot from suggestions made by hospice supporters. After much deliberation they decided on the name "Stellar".

Hospice Events Manager, Pete Watson, said "We are delighted that Martin and Shirlie have continued to show their support with our Starlight Walk and we are confident that Stellar will become a household name as we get her out and about over the coming months in the build up to Starlight."

Stellar will be making appearances locally to encourage registrations for the walk and will also be at the event which sets out from Watford Colosseum on Saturday, June 22.

Organisers are planning new entertainment along the route this year and the event will start at the earlier time of 9pm. The Starlight Walk is a women only event (from age 11 upwards) offering six and 13 mile routes. Entry costs £18 for adults or £12 for under 18’s.

The Starlight Walk has raised more than £1 million since it began and that money plays a vital part in helping the Peace Hospice keep on running. Organisers hope to raise more than £180,000 during this year's walk.

Individuals and teams are invited to register for the Starlight Walk by visiting www.starlightwalk.org.uk or calling 01923 330340.
