Recruitment of runners for the 2013 Watford 10k, has been officially launched at Watford Mencap Children’s Centre in St Albans Road.

The event is run jointly by Watford Round Table and Watford Mencap and takes place in Cassiobury Park this year on Monday, May 6.

It attracts 1,500 runners and many more spectators. The money raised is split equally between Watford Mencap for its Children’s Centre and Watford Round Table, who will distribute it to other local charities.

Almost 300 people have already registered for the event, which includes options for easier 3k and 1k runs. For the fifth year running the Watford based operator of The National Lottery, Camelot, will be sponsoring the 10k run, while the 3k and 1k are being supported by Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

Representatives from both Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and Camelot were joined by Richard Harrington MP for the launch.

Richard Harrington MP said: "The Watford 10k is an event I am incredibly proud to support. This will be a great achievement for everyone involved, and I wish all the runners the very best of luck."

Dan Dark, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, said: "The Fun Run is a fantastic community event and a great way to raise awareness and money. We are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile local event."

Ruth Horwitz, Camelot’s Community Affairs Manager said: "At Camelot, we are dedicated to supporting the communities in which we work.

"We are proud to have supported the Watford 10K for the past few years. Our employees always love getting involved and running the course as well as helping out on the day."

Race director Tim Wood said: "This year’s event has a new exciting route. The event now stays within the perimeters of Cassiobury Park, taking runners through some beautiful scenery."

Everyone who enters the 1k or 3k run and raises more than £25 sponsorship will go into a draw to win a family tour of the Harry Potter Studios.

The 10k runners who raise more than £100 each will go into a draw for a weekend hotel break.
