New play equipment just what schoolchildren ordered

Children in West Watford can look forward to using a host of new equipment in a newly refurbished playground.

The Harwoods Recreation Ground was officially opened by Watford’s Mayor Dorothy Thornhill and West Watford borough councillors yesterday (Thursday).

The new equipment was chosen by children at Laurance Haines School and Westfield Children’s Centre, who were asked what they would like to see in their local park.

The new equipment they chose includes brightly coloured toddler swings, a roundabout, seesaw, playhouse, net climber, slide, trampoline, spinner, basket swing, cable runway and crawl tunnel.

All of the new features are usable in the wet weather and surrounded by a new “safety surface”.

There is also a hopscotch area and allocated dog-free grass.

As well as the new play area, parents can make use of two picnic tables and three seating areas.

The new playground sits alongside an existing games area which was also refurbished in May last year, with new line markings, fencing repairs and repainting, and a replacement basketball hoop.

How nice it is to have a good news story like this. Council tax payers money being put to very good use.

I agree, however it won't be long before the "survival of the fittest" ideologists will be a long with their "children are a financial burden and i don't wish my hard earned tax spent on this nonsense" attitudes....

I think the number of people who would have the view point over a play area are an extreme minority.

There is a large difference between wondering why people on benefits are in a position to enlarge their families at the tax payer expense when those tax payers themselves often have to limit their family size and a position which entails disliking a communal play area
