Parents have found out which primary school their child will be attending from September.

Under 11s school allocations were announced yesterday evening by Hertfordshire County Council.

Of the 17,000 children applying for primary, junior and middle schools, 95 per cent were given a place at one of the preferred schools.

This is an increase of 4 per cent from last year’s figures.

Justin Donovan, director of education and early intervention at the county council, said: "Starting primary school or moving on to a junior or middle school is an important step and I am delighted that, despite the ongoing pressure on school places, the number of children allocated a preferred school has again increased this year.

"We have been working closely with schools over the last three years to create additional reception places.

"Although across the county as a whole there are enough reception places for all children, in some areas demand has exceeded both pupil forecasts and the existing supply of school places."

To meet an increasing demand in across the county eight schools will be taking on extra pupils.

This includes Bournehall Primary in Bushey and St Catherine of Siena and Nascot Wood Infants in Watford.

Mr Donovan added: "All children in Hertfordshire have been allocated a school place but additional capacity will be added in areas of peak demand and more places made available at the first run of continuing interest in the week commencing 13 May 2013.

"Additional places will be added at the continuing interest stage to ensure all families have equal access to them. I recognise that it is vitally important that all families are treated fairly within a clear and transparent process."

All places must be accepted by May 2.
