A charity concert performed by children learning to play a variety of instruments and a choir raised almost £3,000 for two charities which will help other children and young people with their education.

More than 35 children, aged six to 14 took part in their third annual concert at Stanborough Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in Garston on Saturday evening.

Many of them also sang in the choir "Angel Voices" as well as playing instruments which included piano, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, saxophone and flute.

Their levels ranged from complete beginner to advanced and their solo performances included works by Scarlatti, Bruch and Vivaldi. They also joined together as an orchestra during the programme to play the main theme from Finlandia by Sibelius.

Five of the children alone raised more than £400 between them for ADRA and it is estimated that by the time the money has been collected by all of the children this figure will have quadrupled.

The children’s efforts were well-supported by their family, friends and church members who turned out to support and applaud their efforts.

The concert was organised and conducted by the leader of the Music Department, Ms Ji-Eun Ahn, a professional violinist and teacher.

A collection raised £1,200 for the church’s Young Musicians’ Fund to help talented young amateur and professional musicians experiencing temporary financial hardship by supporting their musical tuition or living fees through loans and bursaries.
