One of the reasons I so enjoy being me is that I lead such an exciting and diverse life. An example of this is last Thursday, 25th April I had the privilege to be standing on the Terrace of the House of Commons to attend the launch of “Jobs at Home”. I mean how often do you get a chance to attend an event such as that?

This was the formal launch of Jobs at Home and was organised by the Housing Leadership Foundation (HLF) who originally conceived the idea.

There were several key speakers including Richard Harrington MP for Watford who hosted the event, Don Foster MP, Under Secretary of State, Department for Communities and Local Government and David Orr, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation.

I really enjoyed listening to Gareth Lewis, our Director of Property and New Business and Phil Day, Resources Director from Thrive who did a “double act” telling the audience what it was really like to set the first enterprise up. Watching the video that followed had the greatest impact on me when some of the guys explained how the opportunity of this Watford and Three Rivers joint venture had changed their lives it was really moving.

This initiative has seen Jobs at Home employ tenants who were either unemployed or had insecure employment and offers training as multi-skilled operatives. They will be undertaking the following work in our homes to our more vulnerable tenants – Aids & Adaptations; Two room decs and Handyperson scheme.

I am so pleased I was able to attend this event. It was a really good opportunity for the Trust to present ourselves as a community business that really is doing important work to help our tenants and offering fantastic opportunities that would otherwise not be possible.
