A Watford singing sensation is "so proud" of himself after winning a place at a prestigious music school.

James Harvey, of Oakview Close, impressed examiners who offered him a place on the part-time course at the Royal Academy of Music school.

The 14-year-old’s success comes just days after he came second and third in various competitions at the North London Music Festival this week, where he sung Someone to Watch Over Me.

He said: "I am so proud of myself. Singing makes me feel happy and excited. The competitions were a bit nerve wracking and I didn’t expect to win.

"Sometimes I do get a little bit nervous up on the stage but I forget about it straight away really.

"I am really excited about starting at the college, hopefully it will be the start of something big for me."

In March, he entered a music competition organised by Jewish charity Emunah, where he impressed judges with his rendition of Empty Tables Empty Chairs from Les Miserables.

James, who goes to Yavneh College, Hillside Avenue, Borehamwood, said he owes his success to his singing teacher, Duncan Saunderson, who has been very "encouraging".

He added: "I love singing and would love to be a professional musician one day. I am looking forward to seeing what else I can achieve."
