A man has made a court appearance following a serious attack in a Watford McDonald’s at the weekend.

Alexander McCarthy appeared at Hatfield Remand Court via video link today in relation to the incident, which saw the outlet near The Parade, in High Street, closed by police on Saturday morning.

The 22-year-old from Finchley Road, north west London, has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm, affray, theft and an offence relating to the Identity Documents Act 2010.

He was remanded into custody to appear before St Albans Crown Court on Monday, June 7.

Police were called to the McDonald’s at 2.58 on Saturday and a 30-year-old man was later taken to St Mary’s Hospital in London with serious head injuries.

Two other men have also been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident.

The pair, a 20-year-old man from Ruislip and a 32-year-old from Finchley, have been released on bail until June 6.
