Schoolchildren helped raised more than £150 for charity by taking part in a world record breaking attempt for the most people signing and singing simultaneously.

Pupils at Bushey and Oxhey Infant School on Aldenham Road in Bushey raised £151.66 for SignHealth, the national deaf healthcare charity, during its sign2sing event.

Steve Powell, Chief Executive at SignHealth, said: "We would like to thank Bushey and Oxhey Infant School for taking part in sign2sing and raising such a fantastic amount.

"The money raised during the event will make such a positive difference to our work improving the mental and physical health and well-being of deaf children and adults."

Hundreds of schools from all over the country and overseas registered to take part in SignHealth’s Guinness World Records™ sign2sing project.

The schools ranged in size from 30 to 800 pupils, which, from the charity’s calculations, means more than 135,000 schoolchildren took part in the event. The exact number of participants will be confirmed by Guinness World Records at a later date.

The previous world record, which SignHealth set last year, was 114,277 and the charity is hoping to have smashed this.

SignHealth will be organising the event again next year (2014). People wishing to take part should visit www.sign2sing.org.uk or call 01494 687600.
