Bushey children help name Hertsmere’s waste collection trucks
Hertsmere’s waste collection trucks will be sporting some new names thanks to some creative Bushey youngsters.
Three pupils from Bushey were among the seven in the borough to come up with some new names for the vehicles.
Elizabeth Jackson, nine, of Bushey Manor Junior School, who came up with Lily Litter and five-year-old Reed Finn, of Merry Hill Infant School and Nursery, who thought of Recycling Ralph, were presented with their prizes earlier this month.
Ten-year-old Lily-Rose Waterman, of Hartsbourne Primary School, suggested Eco Erica and was presented with her prize and a sticker of her winning truck name on Tuesday.
Councillor Heywood, who chose the winning names and presented the prizes, said: "We were really impressed with the range and quality of the suggestions given. Thank you to everyone who took part.
"We tried to choose names which were full of character and promoted not just the waste collection aspect of our service, but also a green recycling message.
"Hertsmere residents will see lots of these vehicles over the next few years as each one will visit 3,000 properties per week in the borough, so they should become very familiar with these names."
