The Space Gallery in Southgate is displaying its final exhibition at the premises of the former Barclays Bank.

Conrad Mecheski, a fine art painter who was born in Northern Ireland, will be displaying 269 of his ‘one liners’ together for the first time.

His method involves using a single continual line of ink to capture the image from his imagination.

Conrad started his ‘one liners‘ 25 years ago and describes them as “a diary of my life”.

“They are fresh and minimalist, capturing the essence without a second thought to wipe away doubts that hide inner truth or direction.”

The Space Gallery has been a not-for-profit gallery run purely for the love of art and with the intention of bringing this to the local community, but now has to move out because the landlord wants to develop a community learning space.

Artists from Denmark, Germany, Poland and the USA have exhibited their work at the gallery.

“We are over the moon they came to Southgate,” says Fionn Wilson from the gallery. “We‘ve had seven absolutely brilliant exhibitions.

“We wanted to create a credible art space outside of London and I think we succeeded in bringing art back into the community.”

Photography by pupils at St Monica‘s Primary School on Cannon Road will be displayed from Saturday, July 13.
