The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has hailed the Croxley Rail Link as a path to generating new jobs and economic growth in the town.

The Conservative said he was confident the Metropolitan Line extension, which received legal clearance this week for work to start, would bring "considerable economic benefits" for Watford and the wider region.

Mr Johnson, said: "There is no clearer path to securing new jobs and growth than investing in transport infrastructure, and I am very pleased that the long sought Croxley Rail Link now has the go ahead.

"Linking the tube to the busy town centre in Watford, as well as to the important National Rail and London Overground interchange at Watford Junction, has the potential to lead to considerable economic benefits for local people and also the wider region."

His comments come after the mayor made the decision to close Watford Metropolitan Station to passengers as part of the scheme, despite a campaign from residents and local politicians to maintain a service there.

The Croxley Rail Link will see the Metropolitan Line routed from Croxley station through two new ones in Ascot Road and Vicarage Road before linking with Watford High Street Station and terminating at Watford Junction.
