A north Watford woman has completed her first skydive to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of her late grandmother.

Bekki Upton, of Balmoral Road, decided to raise funds for the charity in this way after her father bought her the skydiving experience for her 21st birthday.

The 21-year-old had never got to meet her grandmother, Betty Upton, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1983 and died in 1990.

Miss Upton said: "I really enjoyed the experience. I tried to keep calm so I would enjoy the jump. I felt really proud afterwards having done the jump and to raise so much money for such a good charity. I would definitely do another one."

Betty Upton was a school teacher in the Watford area in the late 1970s and early 1980s and worked at Harvey Road School before she became too unwell to continue.

Dave Upton, Miss Upton’s father, said: "So far she has raised £640 but it looks like the total will be over £700 for the Alzheimer's society which she is very pleased with. Bekki would like to thank everyone who has donated so far."

The dive took place on July 27 at Hinton Airfield in Oxford.
