Work begun on tree fence around cedar tree in Cassiobury Park
Work has begun on constructing a fence around a cedar tree in Cassiobury Park after it was found to be in danger of falling.
The metal frame started being built around the landmark yesterday and is expected to take five days to complete.
Watford Borough Council decided on the measure after an arboreal survey found the ageing tree’s trunk was in a poor condition.
Following the discovery, officials had two options: build the fence to prevent people getting too close or chop down the tree.
This week the council said the fence cost £6,000, less than half the original £15,000 estimate.
