TV funny man and quiz show host Bradley Walsh was among the former Francis Combe School students who made it to the Hammer in Hand pub in Ganders Ash, Watford, for a reunion on Saturday night.

The prize for the old boy who travelled furthest to be at the event went to Russell O’Connell - Bradley’s cousin - who made the journey all the way from Sweden, where he has lived and worked in the travel industry for more than 30 years.

He also took the opportunity to squeeze in the game between Watford and Charlton at Vicarage Road and a trip to Horseshoe Lane to see the newly rebuilt Francis Combe Academy.

More than 60 former students, and former teacher Mr Carr, attended the event which celebrated friendships struck at the school almost forty years ago.

Hammer in Hand licensee Paul Johnson, another ex-pupil, said: "There was a lot of talk and memories and a lot of drinks consumed over the buffet. I’m sure there were a few sore heads in the morning.

"But it went really well and I have been asked to arrange another reunion for former students now aged 58 and over."

Anyone interested in attending should contact the Hammer in Hand pub on 01923 676787 and leave their details. No date has yet been finalised.
