Watford and Three Rivers homes struck by spate of jewellery burglaries
Homes in Watford and Three Rivers have been targeted in a number of recent jewellery burglaries.
Hertfordshire Constabulary said five break-ins in Watford, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and South Oxhey had occurred recently during the day and early evening.
Most of the burglaries happened between Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7.
In that time a safe containing jewellery was stolen from a property in Wyatts Road, Rickmansworth, a large amount of gold jewellery and ornaments were stolen from a house in Parkfield, Chorleywood, jewellery was stolen from a property in Gosforth Lane, South Oxhey and jewellery and electronics were stolen from a house in High View, Watford.
Then on Tuesday, September 10 there was also an attempted break-in at a property in The Harebreaks, Watford.
Detective Inspector Marcus Bromley from the Local Crime Unit in Watford said: "I’d reassure people that my teams of detectives are fully investigating these crimes and are working proactively to identify those responsible.
"Whilst this work is on-going I would ask people to take extra security precautions such as ensuring you leave a light on inside the property, or use a timer switch to come on when it gets dark, particularly now the nights are drawing in.
"If you must keep large amounts of jewellery at home, my advice would be to ensure you buy a good quality safe which complies with official insurance rating standards and secure it to a wall or the floor."
