Labour councillor for Vicarage, Jagtar Singh Dhindsa, selected to stand for mayor of Watford
A longstanding Labour councillor and former opposition leader has been selected to stand for Watford's elected mayoralty next year.
Jagtar Singh Dhindsa, who represents Vicarage, was chosen on Thursday as the party’s candidate for the race in May.
In a statement released by the party, Councillor Dhindsa said: "I’m delighted that local members have selected me to be Labour's candidate for mayor of Watford."
Labour is the first Watford party to announce its selection for the contest.
The Liberal Democrats have held the office since it was created in 2002.
