A Watford accountant has raised more than £16,000 for a cancer facility by playing 80 holes of golf in a day.

Richard Malone, who works at Hillier Hopkins, collected the money for Marie Curie Research Wing at Mount Vernon Hospital, Rickmansworth.

He said: "I've been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity, as someone with a relative who has been treated there it’s great to be able to do something positive for this very worthwhile charity".

The Marie Curie Research Wing cares for patients in clinical trials for prostate, bladder, head and neck, and breast cancer.

Dr Catherine Lemon, a consultant at Mount Vernon said: "We are extremely grateful for Richard’s fundraising efforts. To complete 80 holes of golf in one day is a huge challenge.

"Donations like this help us to continue our research to improve the success of cancer treatment and reduce treatment side effects. We would like to thank everyone who has donated so generously."

The challenge took place in Porters Park Golf Club in Radlett.
