Team of nurses from Mount Vernon Cancer Centre to take on Moor Park 10k in aid of Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre
Joining the fundraisers, athletes and fun-runners at this year’s Moor Park 10k race will be a team of nurses from a Northwood hospital.
The annual run takes place on Sunday, September 29, and raises money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC), based in Northwood.
This year a team of 15 nurses from the Chemotherapy Suite in the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, which is situated immediately next door to the LJMC, will take part.
They were inspired to take part this year by senior staff nurse, Avril Godley, who has been losing weight in the run up to the Moor Park 10k.
She said: "Some of us will be running, although some will be walking the route. It’s great that we can each go at our own pace but still take part as a team.
"The LJMC does amazing work to support patients and our two departments work closely together so it’s really good to be raising money for them. We’re now working on ideas for fancy dress."
The "Suite Ladies Plus One", team is made up of predominantly female runners, and one male nurse, Brian Croucher.
He said: "I’m used to being the token male, I grew up as the only boy with five sisters, I’m married with two daughters and I’m surrounded by women at work.
"I’m just worried that my colleagues are all going to run faster than me - I’ll never live that down."
The Stewarts Law Moor Park 10k is held at Merchant Taylors’ School. The 10k race is preceded by events for young runners.
Last year, the event attracted more than 1,400 runners and raised £50,000 to help support people affected by cancer.
