More than a hundred extra junior runners took part in this year’s Moor Park 10k run.

The annual run took place on Sunday and raises money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC), based in Northwood.

Watford Observer:

There was an increase of more than a hundred children taking part, with 570 junior competitors completing the race.

In total 829 adults ran, and the men were lead by Metros runner Nigel Rackham in 34 minutes 40 seconds.

Jess Gray from Watford Joggers won the women’s race in 41 minutes 48 seconds.

Buzz Coster, from the LMCJ said: "It went extremely well. It was a beautiful day, which wasn’t ideal for runners but great for the spectators.

"What is really heartening is the number of runners that come back year on year.

"We are so lucky, it has really all fallen into place. We are really lucky with the venue, there is so much room for parking and the fun fair.

"We have collected £30,000 so far, with more still to come. We are hoping for £40,000 in total."

Joining the fundraisers, athletes and fun-runners was a team of 15 nurses from the Chemotherapy Suite in the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, which is situated immediately next door to the LJMC.

They were inspired to take part this year by senior staff nurse, Avril Godley, who had been losing weight in the run up to the Moor Park 10k.

The "Suite Ladies Plus One", team is made up of predominantly female runners, and one male nurse, Brian Croucher.

Avril and Brian both finished the race in an hour and 12 minutes, having ran the race together.
