Watford Community Housing Trust 'so proud' of Investors in People Gold award
The social housing provider Watford Community Housing Trust has been recognised as one of the top organisations to work for in the UK, with the award of the prestigious Investors in People Gold accreditation.
The trust has also been named a "national champion" for its approach to corporate social responsibility.
The Gold status, which is achieved by only one per cent of UK companies, was awarded following an independent assessment of the trust which identified 17 key strengths, including:
- Inspirational leadership, personally role-modelled by the chief executive and other members of the senior management team
- A strong trust ethos that governs the way that it operates
- Excellent team spirit and a culture of mutual recognition and appreciation
- Excellent commitment to staff development
After speaking to staff, the assessors reported that "an extremely committed and loyal workforce takes pride in their work and the impact they can have".
They also praised the trust’s "huge" commitment to social responsibility, adding that supporting the community is helping to bring staff together.
"For many, this is one of the reasons why they are proud to work for the organisation," the report stated.
One example of the trust’s approach to corporate social responsibility is Challenge 6, where staff are being encouraged to carry out at least six hours of voluntary work to help the local community before April 2014.
Trust chief executive Tina Barnard said: "We are so proud of this award, and for me it is recognition that we really are an organisation of choice not only for our staff but for the local community too.
"Whether it’s through our core business or through programmes like Challenge 6, we are passionate about better homes and friendlier communities - and that gives people a real buzz about working here."
