Police warn of distraction theft after phone stolen in Subway, Watford
Police are asking people to be vigilant after a phone was stolen from Subway in High Street, Watford, on Thursday.
Two males distracted an 18-year-old woman by pointing at places on leaflets and asking where they were. During this process her phone went missing.
Inspector Deirdre Dent said: "This isn’t the first time this type of offence has occurred where offenders use leaflets to distract the victim.
"I would encourage people to step away from anyone who is trying to distract them with leaflets. I would also ask people to consider some simple crime prevention advice such as not to leave their phones on tables but to ensure they are in a secure place like a zipped pocket or bag.
"Finally I would like to appeal to anyone who sees this crime in action or has any information which would assist the investigation to contact police."
Anyone with information should contact the Herts police non-emergency number 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
