New girls-only project in Bushey, Us Girls Rocks, to help boost young girls' confidence
A new girls-only project devised by Hertsmere Borough Council in partnership with Child UK began last night.
Us Girls Rocks is taking place this autumn and winter following a successful pilot in Borehamwood earlier this year.
There will be two projects running in Hertsmere for girls aged 11 to 17 - a brand new project in Bushey on Thursday evenings and a continuation of the pilot in Borehamwood on Friday evenings.
Sessions will focus on dance, fashion, hair and make-up and provide opportunities for girls to get together, have fun and learn something new.
Cllr Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "The project is all about helping teenage girls find themselves and be more confident in being an individual, and not necessarily just following the crowd.
"They’ll also get involved in the creative arts namely street dance and fashion and have the option to be part of a professional dance video or live performance as well as a fashion photo shoot at the end.
"Participants will be part of something truly unique and the best part is that it’s completely free."
The Borehamwood project starts tonight at Hertswood Academy dance studio from 7pm to 9pm.
The Bushey project starts next Thursday, October 10, at Bushey Academy arena from 6.15pm to 8.30pm.
The first two weeks of both projects are taster sessions offering an introduction to each of the creative elements - street dance, fashion styling, hair techniques and make-up. Throughout the project girls will learn how to create the latest fashion look without spending a fortune, use make-up and hair products effectively, customise clothes and learn a choreographed dance routine.
