Pub landlord of The Three Crowns, Bushey, nominated for national Enterprise Inns award for second year running
The landlord of a Bushey pub has been crowned a community hero for the second year in a row, after being nominated in a national competition.
Enterprise Inns, a business which leases pubs across the country, is back for its second year to celebrate and reward their publican tenants who make a real difference to their communities through their new community hero awards.
The awards recognise individual publicans in terms of the community work they do through their pubs.
The Three Crowns pub, which has raised more than £40,000 for charity in the past seven years, has already secured a £5,000 prize, to be spent on community projects in the area.
Michael Duffy, who runs the Three Crowns pub in High Road, also won the regional award last year.
The Chorleywood resident said: "We set out with the aim of taking last year’s £5,000 award and trebling it by using the money to fund other fund raising activities and along the way we've helped a lot of people to raise a lot of money for causes that are close to their hearts.
"We couldn't have done it without them and our loyal band of regulars who support our weekly quizzes, our quizmasters Steve, Neil and Mark who give their time so freely, Bushey and Oxhey Round Table who organise our beer festival and above all Enterprise Inns for their support."
When asked how the pub stood out as a community pub, Mr Duffy said: "We are there for the community from hatches, matches through dispatches and all points in between.
"We cater for up to 150 gatherings a year as well as being the meeting place for The Round Table, Masonic Lodges, Amateur Dramatic Society, Bushey Symphony Orchestra, Military Wives Choir, Rock Chorus and various local school PTAs and Residents Associations."
The pub landlord will be competing with 17 other publicans for the nationwide prize. If he wins, he’ll get a further £10,000, again for community projects.
The winner will be announced at a special awards ceremony on Wednesday, October 23.
