Hemel Hempstead MP, Mike Penning, handed role of minister of state for work and pensions in Government reshuffle
Mike Penning MP has expressed his delight at his new government post in yesterday’s reshuffle.
Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning has been appointed as one of the two new ministers of state for work and pensions and will be working with secretary of state Iain Duncan Smith.
Mr Penning was called into 10 Downing Street this lunchtime and was offered the post by the Prime Minister.
Mr Penning said: "I am absolutely delighted and am looking forward to the new role.
"I have had a wonderful year in the Northern Ireland Office and will be sorry to leave, but am happy to be back in a department which has a real connection to the lives of my constituents and where I can do something that will benefit the people of Hemel Hempstead.
"I’m in for a steep learning curve during the next few weeks, but am really looking forward to it."
