New licence for scrap metal dealers in Hertsmere
Anyone buying, selling or collecting scrap metal in Hertsmere will need to apply for the new Scrap Metal Dealer Licence from October 15.
There will be two different types of licence for people to apply for. The first will be a site licence - which is required where a business is carried on as a scrap metal dealer at a premise. The licensee will be permitted to operate from that site as a scrap metal dealer including transporting to and from those sites from any local authority area.
The cost of this licence is £350 for three years.
The second is a collector’s licence - which authorises the licensee to operate as a mobile collector in the area of the issuing local authority, permitting them to collect scrap metal as appropriate.
This includes commercial as well as domestic scrap metal. The cost of this licence is £260 for three years.
Anyone who carries out business as a scrap metal dealer without a licence may be liable on conviction to maximum fine of £5,000.
