Show your support for Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal with 5k Poppy Run in Rickmansworth
The Royal British Legion in Rickmansworth is gearing up to host Hertfordshire’s second Poppy Run this year.
The Poppy Run is one of a national series of 5k fun runs, open to all, which aims to raise funds and awareness for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Ex-RAF Serviceman and local Poppy Appeal Organiser, Paul Harding, is organising the run.
Mr Harding said: "I was really keen for a run to take place in Rickmansworth this year. It is a great way for the community to come together and show their support for the Poppy Appeal whilst having fun."
The Poppy Appeal is the largest single fundraising event in the legion’s calendar.
Over 40 million poppies will be made and distributed for this year’s Poppy Appeal across the UK and overseas by 350,000 dedicated collectors. Every poppy helps raise the £1.6 million needed by the Legion each week to deliver direct, practical care and support to the Armed Forces community.
Natasha Robertson, Hertfordshire Poppy Appeal Community Fundraiser, said: "We recognise the strength of mothers, fathers, partners and kids in armed forces families, who serve alongside their loved ones every single day, and often need practical care and advice too.
"We’re encouraging people to dig deep for the Poppy Appeal, so we can continue providing this vital support to individuals whether they’re still serving, transitioning back to civilian life or have left the Services, but importantly to their dependents too."
The Rickmansworth 5k Poppy Run is taking place at the Aquadrome, starting at 11:00am, Saturday, November 2.
