Michael Sobell Hospice group scoop first prize in Volunteer Awards 2013
A team of "amazing" gardeners from a Northwood hospital have won first place in the Hillingdon Volunteer Awards 2013.
The Michael Sobell Hospice group has won the prize in the Team Volunteer Award category out of 70 nominations.
Louise Gourlay, the hospice’s voluntary services manager, received the award on the team’s behalf at a ceremony held last month at Uxbridge College’s Hayes Campus.
Ms Gourlay, who nominated the group, said: "I wanted the team to win an award in recognition of their commitment and willingness to improve the Michael Sobell Hospice and Cancer Centre surroundings.
"I recently asked them if they could find time to do some work in the garden in the radiotherapy centre, and within seven days they had transformed it.
"With the help of our amazing volunteers we can wheel our patients outside in their beds to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our beautiful gardens. They are an amazing team that contribute so much to our charity."
The awards were organised by The London Borough of Hillingdon, Hillingdon Inter-faith Network, Dovetail Community Outreach, Uxbridge College and Hillingdon Association of Voluntary Services.
