New women's charity opens in Market Street, Watford
A new charity shop and crèche aimed at supporting women in Watford has opened in the town centre.
Watford Women’s Centre Plus opened its doors in Market Street yesterday at a ceremony led by the town’s elected mayor, Dorothy Thornhill.
The Women’s Centre took over the building from another charity earlier this year and has also added a training room and extra office space for the charity’s staff.
The charity said the new facilities will allow it to develop its Job Club scheme, which helps people looking for employment.
Tracey Burke, chief executive of the charity, said: "The new shop will help to fund existing services and offers the Women’s Centre a long term and stable base to work from."
The centre helps woman in crisis by offering support and advice.
Mayor Thornhill added: "I am so pleased to be opening such a fantastic shop, as it marks real progress by the women of Watford and the Women’s Centre in particular. It also makes a strong positive statement on the profile of women in the area".
