A Rickmansworth boathouse that is "falling to bits" will undergo a reconstruction after planning politicians unanimously approved the proposal on Thursday night.
The application to replace the existing boat shed and the construct a new clubhouse at Bury Lake was heard at Three Rivers District Council’s planning meeting.
The plans were agreed by all councillors as the scheme is "much needed", despite the fact that the site is located in the Local Wildlife Site.
Conservative councillor, Paula Hiscocks, said: "I think this is a scheme that’s much needed. The old boat house is falling to bits."
The boathouse, which has been used by the Bury Lake Young Mariners for 30 years, is situated within the Aquadrome.
Councillor Hiscocks also said the boathouse was important as it provides sports facilities for the Aquadrome, as well as sailing and kayaking clubs.
The site is also located in the Metropolitan Green Belt and is a local wildlife site.
However, Conservative councillor, Amrit Mediratta, said that sports facilities in the Green Belt "is not an inappropriate development".
