Kings Langley wedding cake designer, Samantha Pilling, shortlisted in Hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards
A wedding cake designer from Kings Langley who provides special celebration cakes for children with life threatening illnesses has been shortlisted in a national wedding awards scheme.
Samantha Pilling, founder of Bite me Bakery, is in the final 10 cake designers in the Hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards.
Ms Pilling grew up to the smell of fruit cake and royal icing at her Nan’s house, who she describes as her biggest inspiration.
She worked in Media and Sponsorship Sales for 16 years and then while pregnant with her third son decided to take up baking. Since then she has designed cakes for celebrities such as Emma Noble and has opened her own business, Bite me Bakery.
The hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards (HBAs) are run by the UK’s leading wedding website, hitched.co.uk to recognise new talent in the wedding industry.
Sixty people, 10 in each category, have been shortlisted by expert judges in six categories. The categories include wedding cake design, wedding floristry, wedding stationery, wedding photography, wedding hair styling and honeymoon hotels.
The 60 shortlisted have been narrowed down from hundreds of entries from all over the country with the editor of Wedding Cakes magazine, Jenny Royle selecting the ten cake finalists.
Bite me Bakery supports the "Baking a Smile" charity which provides special celebration cakes for children with life threatening illnesses. Ms Pilling has also run the London marathon, competed in The London triathlon and entered The Three Peaks Challenge. Last week she donated a cake with an old lady on a mobility scooter to mark Shop Mobility Watford’s 20th Anniversary.
Ms Pilling said: "Sadly my Nan passed away eight years ago and didn’t ever see me start my business, but I know she would be so proud."
"When I inherited her cake tins, this reignited my first love - designing, creating and decorating cakes."
