Garston Ladies football coach, Guy Scott, set for Great South Run
A year ago Garston Ladies football coach Guy Scott would have laughed if anyone had suggested him going for a 10 mile run.
Now, that’s just what he’s about to do as he enters the final few days of his training programme and prepares to take part in Sunday’s Great South Run.
This will be Guy’s second event of the year - back in June he successfully completed the British 10K Run in London in one hour and 15 minutes - and on Sunday he’ll be fulfilling a promise made after that race.
Guy, 43, who runs a contract cleaning company in Bricket Wood, said: "I told everyone that if I met my target of raising £300 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, I’d be back for more."
The final figure of £887 exceeded all expectations and now Guy is running to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.
His father had an emergency heart bypass earlier this year and the family’s gratitude for the professionalism and commitment of the surgeons involved in carrying out the operation made the choice of charity straightforward. Guy has been married to Joanne for 21 years and he has teenage children Joshua, 18, and 14-year-old Rosie.
Rosie is captain of Garston Ladies under 16 Sharks and it was she who got her dad coaching about seven years ago.
He has set himself a target of raising £250 and he is very nearly there.
He started running in April last year and has been in training for this race since June averaging a minimum of 20-30 miles per week come rain or shine.
