Aldenham pupil, TJ O’Sullivan, celebrates first big win in Prep Schools’ National Under 11 table tennis contest
A pupil from Edge Grove School in Aldenham has been crowned this year’s Prep Schools’ National Under 11 table tennis champion, following a day of competition in Croydon last weekend.
TJ O’Sullivan, 10, from Aldenham, took part with three other pupils from the school in the Championships.
Val Proctor at the school said: "TJ won all his group games before producing one of his best-ever wins to come through his semi-final, winning 11-9 in the fifth and deciding game against an England ranked opponent."
Having progressed to the final, TJ raised his game again to win 3-1 to become national champion.
TJ said about the experience: "I was really pleased because it was my first win in a big competition. It showed me that, when I play well, I can beat even top players. I am going to keep working hard on my shots so that I can have that feeling again soon."
Another pupil Cordy O’Sullivan was the only girl to take part (and the youngest participant at age eight) and finished 16th. Kavir Mehta and Redvers Gardner finished 11th and 7th respectively.
