A crack house has been closed on the Meriden estate in Garston following police raids earlier this year.

Officers executed a drug warrant at the flat in Pinetree House on August 21 after receiving numerous complaints from neighbours about nuisance behaviour.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said during the raid police found 28 rocks of crack cocaine in the property.

On Tuesday, St Albans Magistrates’ Court issued a Crack House Closure Order under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 banning the occupant, Roger Lewis, from entering for three months.

PC Nikki Simons said: "This flat is in a residential area where there are families and children living. Residents have had to live with this constant problem for a number of years, and whilst we have worked to do all in our power to resolve the issues, the last resort was to apply to magistrates for a closure order."

Chief Inspector for Watford, Dave Wheatley added: "We’re extremely pleased that this was granted. It was an excellent example of joint partnership working with the Watford Community Housing Trust in eliminating drug use and serious anti-social behaviour issues. None of our community should have to put up with this activity and we hope this will provide them with the reassurance and protection that they need."

During period of the ban Watford Community Housing Trust will apply to the courts to gain possession of the property.

Watford Community Housing Trust ASB Officer Denise Cole said: "This is the first case in Hertfordshire in a residential property for many years and is a great example of what can be achieved by partnership working. We are proud that the close working relationship between the Trust and the Police can make a positive difference to the quality of life for residents in our communities."
