Smartly-dressed Jenine Jones was a horse-riding instructor near her home in Sarratt by day but at night she helped run a seedy brothel above a motorbike shop.

The 41-year-old blonde was caught red-handed when police raided the brothel because she had climbed out onto the roof in her dressing gown, fearing the place was being burgled and today she was convicted by a jury for her part in running the house of ill repute.

When detectives found her shivering on the roof she told them: "Thank God it's you, I thought we were being robbed."

The story unfolded when Jones stood in the dock accused of assisting in the running of a brothel, 60 miles from her £400,00 pounds home in Deadman's Ash Lane, Sarratt.

The jury heard that Jones had feared for her safety when police officers used force to burst through the front door of the brothel in Newbury, Berkshire. She fled onto the roof.

She was later arrested but denied helping run the illicit enterprise - merely insisting she was a weekly cleaner at the small two-bedroomed flat above a bike shop.

However, she was charged by police over her involvement as it was alleged she answered the phone to set up encounters and took cash payments from clients on behalf of the working girls.

The well-groomed blonde also kept brothel owner Meinir Kirlew - also known as Teresa - up to date with text message information on the number of customers attending the premises, the numbers of girls working and where she had hidden takings under loose carpet for collection every Friday.

Prosecutor Rebecca Austin told the hearing at Reading Crown Court: "At 8.20pm on November 9 a search warrant was executed at 22 Newtown Road, Newbury.

"Entry was forced by police who identified themselves as officers upon entry.

"In the lounge of the flat was a woman. She stated she was working as a prostitute one day a week.

"She earned an average £200 pounds a day.

"In her make-up bag was a bundle of cash. She explained that the money was her takings from the clients.

"Officers went upstairs. In one bedroom was a man and a female. Both were in a state of undress. The woman said she was a prostitute and renting a room."

The women, from Latvia and the Czech Republic, paid £20 pounds per client to Kirlew for use of the premises.

Ms Austin added: "The second bedroom was empty. However on a flat roof outside the window was another female.

"She was heard to say, 'it's okay, I'm coming back in'. On seeing police she said, 'thank God it's you, I thought we were being robbed.

"She identified herself as Jenine Jones and provided her address to police," said the prosecuter.

"Officers asked her what her role was at the address and she said she was the cleaner.

"Miss Jones was searched and found to have a cheque book in her name. She also had keys for the address."

Pornographic material, oils, towels and baby wipes were found in one bedroom. The second room had similar paraphernalia.

A letter addressed to Teresa Kirlew was found and a total of £680 pounds cash was seized from the establishment above the Pro-Bike shop.

Classified adverts for the brothel billed as "relaxing and unhurried massages" were placed in the Newbury Weekly News and Newbury Advertiser newspapers.

These £50 pound weekly adverts had appeared in the local papers since 2007.

They were stopped by Kirlew after the raid in November last year.

Eight mobile phones were seized from the flat.

Jones denied the single charge of assisting in the managing of a brothel involved in the practices of prostitution on or before November 9, last year, but was convicted unanimously by the jury after just two hours and 12 minutes deliberation.

The jury of seven women and five men had been told that brothel owner Meinir Kirlew, 51, from Grange Court, Holmesdale Street, Cardiff, has pleaded guilty to managing a brothel contrary to Section 33A(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956.

Addressing the defendant, Judge Morris said: "Miss Jones I'm not going to deal with you today.

"I'm going to order a pre-sentence report. It is in your interests to co-operate with the Probation Service.

"It can only reflect badly on you if you choose not to."

She added: "I'm keeping all options open with regards to a pre-sentence report."

Jones, along with Kirlew, will be sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday, December 13.

Jones was arrested on bail on the condition that she must "eat and sleep every night at her Sarratt residence".
