Greenpeace activists from St Albans protested outside a north Watford petrol station for the second time in two years at the weekend.
Campaigners stood outside the Shell garage by the Dome Roundabout on Saturday raising awareness over 30 Greenpeace members who were arrested by the Russian authorities for protesting over oil drilling in the Arctic Circle.
Last year the group staged a similar protest over companies drilling in the Arctic Circle.
Juliet Voisey, from the St Albans branch, said: "About eight Greenpeace supporters held placards outside the garage in support of the Arctic 30, joining around 40 protests across the UK that same day. Although the majority have been bailed; they still face charges.
"Shell are still planning on partnering with Gazprom and venturing into the Arctic to drill for oil. It is their relationship with Gazprom and their intention to drill that will endanger this unspoilt region."
