A survey to record traffic speeds in a South Oxhey road, which was recently the scene of a three-car crash, has been agreed.

County councillor Joan King arranged for the safety survey and traffic study of Hayling Road, as she hopes it will provide enough evidence for action to be taken by highways bosses to reduce speeds.

The Labour politician said the road is not being given "the priority it deserves" by Hertfordshire County Council.

One course of action that has been discussed between traffic experts and Councillor King is introducing a temporary stop-gap measure, which involves introducing new white lining that narrows the road and encourages drivers to slow down.

Councillor King said: "That’s very much an interim measure. I have asked how near the top of the list for action Hayling Road is. It really needs some physical measures."

Hayling Ward councillor, Stephen Cox, added: "I have been banging on to the police about this and they have done their best to get the speed camera up there.

"I agree with Councillor King that physical measures are required and am glad she has got things going in the right direction."
