A month of facial hair came to an end for Kings Langley’s MP, Mike Penning, when he consigned his Movember moustache to the barber shop floor at the weekend.

Mr Penning’s moustache was shaved off by barber Karen Beer on Saturday morning.

He said: "This is my second year of supporting Movember and it is an inspired way of raising money for men’s health research charities. A month of itchiness and ribbing about getting a part in an Edwardian TV drama has been worth it as, adding together the money donated online and the money pledged, I think I will have raised about £700."

Movember aims to raise awareness and millions of pounds to help beat prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

Mikis Euripides, Director of Policy and Strategy at Prostate Cancer UK, said: "It’s great that Mike has joined me and thousands of Mo Bro’s across the UK in support of Movember and Prostate Cancer UK.

"Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and set to be the most common cancer overall by 2030, yet despite this we are decades behind where we need to be in terms of research, treatment and support. Working together, Movember and Prostate Cancer UK are helping to redress this balance by putting men’s health firmly in the spotlight, because men deserve better."
